Kidpower Teenpower Fullpower Trust
Kidpower Teenpower Fullpower Trust (Kidpower NZ) is a charitable organisation which aims to teach people the skills needed to be emotionally and physically safe with others and with themselves. This includes skills such as • Setting boundaries for better relationships • Solving conflict without violence or aggression • Safety plans to prepare for the unexpected • Speaking up for oneself and for others • Self protection to prevent trouble • Self defence skills to stop emergencies
Our Programmes We have 5 core programmes: • Kidpower Parent-Child Workshops for 4-7 year olds • Kidpower Workshops for 8-12 year olds and • Teenpower Workshops for 13 to 18 year olds • Fullpower and Seniorpower Workshops for adults • Healthy Relationships for those with intellectual disabilities
Common strategies used in our workshops include • role-playing common situations, such as dealing with an enraged customer at work or a frightening play ground situation • practising skills which prevent, avoid, pacify, and leave those problems as quickly as possible • focusing on the positive and on our own power to respond to problems safely and effectively • approaching the issues with curiosity, confidence, compassion, and humour, not with worry or fear • enjoying the skills and activities, and we laugh – a lot!
